The ideal scenario to use this technique is when you think you can move your own checkers quicker than the opposing player does: when 1) you have a fewer pieces on the board; 2) all your checkers have past your competitor's chips; or 3) your opponent does not employ the hitting or blocking strategy.

The Blocking Game Plan

The primary goal of the blocking strategy, by the title, is to stop the opponent's pieces, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your pieces quickly. After you've established the blockade for the competitor's movement with a few chips, you can move your other checkers swiftly off the game board. The player really should also have a clear plan when to back off and shift the checkers that you employed for blocking. The game becomes interesting when your competitor utilizes the same blocking tactic.
