The goal of a Backgammon match is to shift your chips around the game board and pull them from the board faster than your opposing player who works just as hard to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Winning a game of Backgammon needsrequires both tactics and good luck. Just how far you can move your pieces is up to the numbers from rolling the dice, and the way you move your pieces are decided on by your overall playing plans. Enthusiasts use differing strategies in the different stages of a game depending on your positions and opponent's.

The Running Game Tactic

The goal of the Running Game strategy is to entice all your checkers into your inner board and get them off as quickly as you could. This strategy concentrates on the speed of shifting your checkers with no efforts to hit or stop your competitor's chips. The ideal time to use this tactic is when you believe you can shift your own checkers a lot faster than the opposition does: when 1) you have a fewer pieces on the game board; 2) all your chips have past your competitor's checkers; or 3) your opponent does not employ the hitting or blocking tactic.

The Blocking Game Tactic

The main aim of the blocking tactic, by its title, is to stop your competitor's checkers, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your checkers quickly. After you have created the blockade for the competitor's movement with a few checkers, you can shift your other pieces quickly from the board. The player really should also have an apparent strategy when to withdraw and shift the chips that you employed for the blockade. The game gets interesting when your competitor uses the same blocking technique.
