The aim of a Backgammon game is to shift your chips around the Backgammon board and get them off the board quicker than your opponent who works just as hard to attempt the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Winning a round of Backgammon requires both strategy and good luck. How far you can shift your chips is left to the numbers from rolling a pair of dice, and how you shift your checkers are decided on by your overall playing plans. Enthusiasts use differing strategies in the different parts of a match based on your positions and opponent's.

The Running Game Tactic

The aim of the Running Game plan is to lure all your pieces into your inner board and get them off as quickly as you can. This tactic focuses on the speed of moving your pieces with no time spent to hit or stop your opponent's chips. The ideal time to employ this tactic is when you think you might be able to move your own chips quicker than the opponent does: when 1) you have less checkers on the board; 2) all your pieces have moved beyond your opponent's pieces; or 3) your opposing player does not employ the hitting or blocking tactic.

The Blocking Game Tactic

The main aim of the blocking strategy, by the name, is to block the competitor's pieces, temporarily, while not worrying about moving your pieces quickly. As soon as you've established the blockage for the competitor's movement with a couple of pieces, you can move your other pieces quickly from the game board. The player will need to also have a clear plan when to back off and move the checkers that you employed for the blockade. The game gets intriguing when your competitor uses the same blocking technique.
