Enthusiasts use a number of tactics in the different stages of a match based on your positions and opponent's.

The Running Game Strategy

The aim of the Running Game strategy is to entice all your chips into your home board and pull them off as quick as you can. This tactic focuses on the pace of advancing your pieces with absolutely no efforts to hit or block your competitor's chips. The ideal time to use this tactic is when you think you might be able to move your own checkers quicker than the opposition does: when 1) you have less pieces on the game board; 2) all your chips have moved beyond your competitor's checkers; or 3) your opposing player does not use the hitting or blocking plan.

The Blocking Game Tactic

The main goal of the blocking technique, by the title, is to block your opponent's checkers, temporarily, while not worrying about moving your chips rapidly. As soon as you have established the blockage for the opponent's movement with a couple of checkers, you can shift your other pieces quickly from the board. You should also have a good plan when to extract and move the chips that you employed for the blockade. The game gets interesting when the opposition utilizes the same blocking strategy.
